Description

Royal Beach at Mornington is out the front of the old Royal Hotel. It's a small pocket beach, just 150 metres long, lying between two 10 to 20 metres high, red sandstone bluffs, and backed by grassy bluffs and the Esplanade. The narrow beach looks attractive at high tide, but at low tide exposes a continuous rock and reef flat, with deep water only out beyond the rocks.

Access is down a short scrambly sloped track opposite the end of Canterbury Street. Off the beach, there is a wide rubble and rock-strewn seafloor with small fish and crustaceans. A good beginner's dive.
